Living and working adjacent to the Cotswolds in the Warwickshire countryside, I’m lucky to
be surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery the UK has to offer—and it’s a
constant reminder of the responsibility I have to protect it. Creating furniture that looks and
feels right is essential but so is making sure it doesn’t come at a social or environmental
cost.
To that end, I work closely with local cutting companies for the initial production stage, and
then personally shape, assemble, and finish each piece by hand. This hands-on approach
means I can guarantee that the entire process is free from exploitation and carried out with
care and integrity.
I’m also selective about the timber I use. All of it is fully traceable, legally sourced, and
comes from suppliers who are committed to responsible forest management. I’m proactive
in ensuring that these suppliers not only meet but aim to exceed the minimum standards for
sustainability.
In addition, I support the Woodland Trust—the UK’s largest woodland conservation charity.
For every piece of furniture a customer commissions, I donate a tree in your name,
contributing to the protection and expansion of our native woodlands.
Since 1972, the Woodland Trust has:
● Planted over 38 million trees
● Saved more than 950 woods from destruction
● Acquired over 1,000 woodland sites—each open to the public and free to enjoy
● Their vision is a UK rich in native woods and trees, for both people and wildlife—and
I’m proud to be a part of that mission.
Sustainability
While fully natural finishes like tung oil, beeswax, and teak oil are often considered eco-friendly, they are not suitable for the durable, clean look required in bedroom and media furniture. Instead, I use Farrow & Ball’s Estate Eggshell — a water-based, low-VOC paint made in the UK under strict environmental standards. It offers an excellent balance of sustainability and performance, helping me bring each piece to life without compromising my values.
All pieces are hand-finished, avoiding spray application. This approach significantly reduces the use of harmful chemicals, thinners, and the waste associated with spray equipment — such as filters, masking materials, and excess energy use from extraction systems. The subtle textures created by hand-finishing — whether from a roller or brush — add warmth and individuality, enhancing the character and artisanal quality of each piece.
